Dear Prayer Warriors,

Greetings in the precious Name of our soon-coming Saviour and King, the Lord Jesus Christ! Lord, I have heard the report about You and I fear. O Lord, revive Your work in the midst of the years, In the midst of the years make it known; In wrath remember mercy. Habakkuk 3:2

Hurricane season has begun and already there has been one named storm. It was far from us but it illustrates the point that those who predict the weather are making – that this will be an active season. All the conditions are certainly in place for an active hurricane season so we would appreciate your prayers that the Lord will protect us and make us a blessing through the stormy months. The wind test equipment will be installed later this month and will provide accurate current weather information as well as accumulate the data needed for the wind power project. A big “thank you!” to those who continue to support this project.

We said “goodbye” to the McPhersons yesterday as they headed up to the USA for a much needed furlough. They plan to return to Carriacou in December. Pray for them as they travel many miles during their time in the USA.

Next week, my mother, Arlene Cornelius (Mama C) and I plan to travel to Antigua to attend the funeral of a long-time family friend and prayer warrior, Miss Maggie Brown. Please pray for safety as we travel and that we will be an encouragement to the family at this time of bereavement.

Thank you very much for your part in this work of God. Thank you for inviting others to listen. Thank you for your encouragement not only to keep the standards high but to keep the Standard, the Lord Jesus Christ, held high so that He may draw all kinds of people to Himself. Thank you for your faithful, prayerful support! As we reflect upon the many years the Lord has given us to proclaim Christ in the Caribbean and on the wonderful way He has used this ministry for His glory, our desire is that we will not become complacent but that God will revive us as we are “in the midst of the years” of this ministry and that His work will be known - known for godliness; known for holiness; known for...

Dear Praying Friends,

Greetings in the precious Name of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ!

This is just a short note to let you know that Sharlene and I returned safely to Carriacou last week.  It was a joy for us to see Caroline graduate and to visit many friends and family while we were in Greenville, SC.  Thank you for your prayers!

Pray for the McPhersons as they not only prepare for furlough beginning June 1 but complete a move to another house before they go.  I'm sure they would appreciate your prayers for strength and good speed.  Pray for the men who will be taking over the pulpit ministry at Open Door Ind. Baptist Church in their absence.

The Steels announced recently that they would be terminating their work with us here at the Harbour Light.  Several issues were considerations in their decision.  They completed packing quickly and have already left for the USA.  We thank the Lord for the contribution they made to the ministry here.  They will be missed.  Pray for them as they re-settle in the USA and look to the Lord for His leading for the future.

Thank you for praying for us and the ministry of the Harbour Light.  Thank you also for your faithful support and encouraging letters and calls!  Our desire is to honour the Lord in every area of our lives and to proclaim with accuracy, clarity, & certainty the riches of the written and living Word of God.

Dear Fellow Believers in Christ,

Greetings in the Name of our risen and soon-coming Saviour and Lord Jesus Christ! "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, 'All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.'" Matthew 28:18-20

We continue to experience drought conditions here in Carriacou. Praise the Lord for a little bit of rain recently. More is needed! Our normal rainy season does not begin until June.

In a couple of weeks, Ron Leis, Tim Thomas and John McPherson will be replacing the rusting guy wires on our AM tower. Please pray for safety as Ron and Tim travel and for all three as they work on the tower. They are also planning to erect a small tower that will facilitate our own wind study equipment which should arrive here in a few weeks, Lord willing. The equipment will double as a high quality weather station and will remain in place after the wind study for that purpose. A few people are faithfully supporting the wind generator fund – thank you! – but we still have a long way to go.

Other reasons for intercession include one of our diesel generators which is still down due to a defective voltage regulator card. Pray that the one generator that is running will continue to give us good service. By the way, it costs about $4000us a month to purchase diesel for the generator. We are still looking for the right person to help us lay new carpet in the studio & office buildings. Thank you for praying with us for all these needs to be met.

The verse quoted above is one of the first commands of our Lord to His disciples after He was raised from the dead. It is a great commission with far-reaching consequences for our obedience or disobedience to it. Praise the Lord for the technology available to us today which provides tremendous access to many people in many places so that they can hear the "all things" that Jesus commanded us to teach. Technology is just as effective a tool for the enemies of God to spread their false doctrines. By stripping away parts of the Bible or by compartmentalizing Jesus teaching they make it less bloody and more appealing or acceptable to a lost and dying world in order to win them. However, Jesus said to teach the "all things." Humanly speaking, there is nothing we can do to compete with the world or with a worldly Christianity - and we don't intend to! We must depend upon the Spirit of God to energize us and "all scripture" to accomplish His work in our hearts and the hearts of His people all over these Windward islands (and beyond!). The appeal must be Christ; the reason, Christ; the sound, sight, goal and prize, the risen Christ! Jesus Himself said "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." John 12:32  Maranatha!

Staff News:
Randy & Sharlene Cornelius will be traveling to the USA early in May to attend the graduation of their oldest daughter, Caroline, from Bob Jones University. Sharlene plans to take two summer school courses continuing her work toward a masters degree in Education.

John & Karen McPherson will be traveling to the USA in June for a 5 month furlough. Pray for them as they travel and report to supporters as well as visit with family and friends. Pray for the Lord to provide just the right man to fill the pulpit at Open Door Ind. Baptist Church while they are gone.

John and Sharon Steel plan to be in the USA for about 6 weeks (August to early September) to help settle the estate of Sharon's mother. Pray for safety in travel and for a blessed family reunion.

Mama C (Arlene Cornelius) plans to spend the month of August in the USA to attend the fist wedding of her grandchildren. She plans to take her granddaughter, Anna-Helen, with her to accompany and help her.

Continue to pray for the Lord to provide for Richard and Francina Little to be able to finish their house project. The walls are up to the ring beam but a lot of work remains to be done before they can move in.

Linus and Jennifer Louis have been asking the Lord to provide a house for them. Please join them in praying for this need. Pray for daughter, Jisa, who is spending some time in the USA with her grandmother.

Pat and Janice Murphy are settling in to their new environment very well. They are getting used to the routine, the heat and the ministry. Pat has been working on the yard, our pond (empty at the moment) and our access road. Pray with us for the finances to pour a slab and install a roof over the extended maintenance facility. Several men have volunteered to come help with this project when we are able to do it.

We thank the Lord for each staff member He has called to labour here at the Harbour Light. We thank the Lord for you who have written, emailed or called to assure us of your prayers for us and your encouragement! God bless you!

Our Listeners Write...
from Grenada... Praise God for the water of Life that is going on twenty-four hours a day on this blessed station, Harbour Light. All who listen have no excuse. As for me the Word is a light and a lamp unto my feet. This is what the world needs. Harbour Light is a blessing! It was by searching on my radio for Spiritual food that I found the Harbour Light years ago. I try to tell as many people as I can and I keep my radio tuned to this station all the time.

from St. Vincent... Greetings dear Brothers and Sisters in our Saviour's precious Name. I am writing to say thanks once again for blessing my heart all through the year with those wonderful programs on the radio. I still listen every day and I still enjoy every bit of it. You might not know how helpful this blessed station is to my spiritual life until we get to Heaven. I know the Lord will reward each of you for the great work you are doing for Him. Yours is a talk that will be greatly repaid above. I love Jesus and I am really looking forward to the rapture or if I die before to be with Him in glory. There we will see each other face to face, never to part again. Thanks again for watching over my soul.

from Trinidad...
The excellent programming of God's Word has brought much upliftment and enlightenment to me. I have encouraged others to tune in and grow spiritually. Thank God for wonderful people like you and all those connected to your broadcasts.

from Barbados... This is a wonderful work. Because of the Harbour Light I was fortunate to learn about the gospel of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I found that station one day (in December 1993) searching for Christmas music. I must also say because of the many broadcasters and the true Bible teaching and preaching programmes being broadcast on AM 1400, I can honestly say that I am a Christian. Yes, I am saved! I have joined a [good] church six weeks ago... ...my Pastor told me last night that baptism for me is around the corner... Many years ago I was of the opinion my sins were too bad to be forgiven by God. Today, I am happy living for God, Amen.

from Trinidad... I continue to enjoy the Harbour Light's broadcasts. It has become part of me and I am learning and have learned much. Thank you and the Staff. May you grow from strength to strength in the Lord.

from Trinidad... Thanks a million for the broadcast, may God continue to shower His blessings upon and the entire staff at the Harbour light of the Windwards. Thanks again. ~Sent from my Blackberry wireless device

from Texas... Hello and greetings from south Texas! My family and I wanted to thank you for the good programming you provide. We discovered your web stream about 6 months ago when scouring the web for good conservative Christian programming for children, which is very difficult to find. Now our kids tune in to Sailor Sam every afternoon and also love the Listening Post and Captain's Kids. They also faithfully catch Ranger Bill on Saturday evenings. And even though my 2-year-old daughter can't understand the preaching yet, she has learned the song "Jesus Saves" by listening to the opening of Minor Hawk's broadcast on Saturdays---she now calls it "her song." It's a blessing to know there are still people broadcasting good quality Christian programming and music in spite of the modern trends. So many have given in to compromise these days. Thanks for standing true.

Dear Citizens of Heaven,

Greetings from dry Carriacou! Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:2-4)

Our plans have changed somewhat concerning the re-guying of our 175 foot AM tower. The team from Findlay, OH is no longer able to come but the Lord put us in touch with Ron Leis in Canada who did this same work for the Caribbean Radio Lighthouse in Antigua a few weeks ago. Ron has graciously consented to come help us re-guy our tower the middle of April, Lord willing. Tim Thomas from the USA is also planning to come help on the ground. We already have the material so please help us pray for the Lord to provide all of the travel expenses for Ron and Tim and for safety as they work with John McPherson on this project next month.

We continue to struggle with various equipment failures. One of our generators has a problem with a voltage regulator board and three air conditioners are having problems. Pray for the finances and the wisdom to repair these items. Praise the Lord for a number of good gifts recently toward the wind power project. We hope to have a wind study in progress before June. The grounds are looking better as Richard, Linus and Pat work hard to get stumps, stones and sticks out of the newly cleared land. We still need help with laying new carpet, and pouring a small slab and roofing the maintenance area. A lot of behind the scenes work goes on to keep the facility maintained and the programmes flowing smoothly. I greatly appreciate the hard work of each of our staff members as well as our many broadcasters.

We are in great need of water here in the Windwards right now. The land is becoming dry and dusty. Praise the Lord for those who have enough water to share with those of us who have run out! God gives us the joy of daily sharing the Water of Life with thousands of listeners. One listener recently wrote I give thanks to God for enabling you with his grace and strength to serve Him daily. The Harbour Light radio is truly an oasis in the desert. There is hardly anything uplifting on our local radio stations but praise the Lord, there is a “remnant” who fear Him and speak often to one another (Mal 3:16). We here in the islands are thankful to God for you. We love you. We appreciate you and we encourage you in the Lord. “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9

May the Lord continue to guide us and provide for this spiritual oasis for His glory until He comes again. God bless you for helping us to keep...

Dear Praying Friends,

Greetings in the matchless name of our risen and soon-coming Saviour and King, the Lord Jesus Christ.  O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.  Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory.  Psalm 63:1-2

Dry, dry, dry!  That's the condition of our island as I write to you today.  The rainy season turned out to be another dry season so water reserves were used up during the time when water reserves are usually being replenished.  Now we are facing our regular dry season.  Please pray for water!

Praise the Lord for the water of the Word of God which flows daily from this radio ministry for many thirsty souls.  Yesterday I heard of an older lady in Grenada who years ago heard the Harbour Light playing in a shop across from where she lived.  She would go over to the shop to hear better and to ask questions of the Christian lady who was working in the shop.  Soon she was listening at home for herself but continued to go over to the shop to ask questions.  After a time, she would go to her church early Sunday morning and then go to church with the Christian lady from the shop.  Finally, she trusted Christ as her Saviour and quit going to the church she had attended all her life because it was spiritually dry – she did not find the water of life there!  Today she is a regular Harbour Light listener (loudly so people on the street can hear) and is a wonderful witness for the Lord!

Thank you for your prayers and gifts which God uses to see that the Water of Life continues to flow out from the Harbour Light 17 hours on AM 1400 daily reaching tens of thousands of people, 24 hours daily on 92.3 and 94.5 FM reaching several thousand people and 24 hours daily on the Internet reaching dozens of people.  In addition, the Harbour Light sends out many tracts, recorded messages, Bible lessons and other literature each week free of charge.  All of that would be in vain if it were not for one thing – or should I say one Person – the Holy Spirit.  It is a marvelous fulfillment (in concert with many other believers) of what Jesus cried out on that last day of the feast shortly before He died.  Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, “From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.”  But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive...  John 7:37-39  What a mighty stream of living water goes out for God's glory as many believers from several countries join together in...

Dear fellow strangers and pilgrims,

New Year's greetings to you in the Name of our risen and soon-coming King, the Lord Jesus Christ! These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Hebrews 11:13

We had an encouraging response to the Christmas programming again this year. Thanks go to Karen McPherson for putting it all together and to you for listening and for letting us know you enjoyed it! Our prayer is that the emphasis on “Emmanuel” will give us a new appreciation for all God has done so that He could be with us and in us and for us! God has been so very merciful and patient with us and has blessed the work in spite of our shortcomings. He has used you and many others to encourage us and to supply the various needs of this ministry for which we are eternally grateful. We are now another year closer to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The devil knows he has but a little time. How much time do we have? Will we allow God to accomplish all His will in us and through us this year?

The light is fading fast on this day of grace and many Christians are no longer “strangers and pilgrims” on this earth. “Vanity Fair” has become a place where many Christians feel comfortable! Recently, I read an article in which a pastor wrote of modern Christianity “...the main idol is self, the main doctrine is autonomy (self-law, rule), and the central act of worship is being entertained...”  How can we do God's work in God's way when we love ourselves so much?  There is no time to waste!Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul. (1 Peter 2:11) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

Staff News

Mama C” (Arlene Cornelius) is scheduled to arrive back home in Carriacou on Sunday, January 10, Lord willing. She has had a wonderful time with two of her children and their families for the six months she has been in the USA. She is doing well with her new brace and thanks the Lord for your prayers. She is looking forward to returning home and getting back into the routine of the work here and we will be glad to have her back!

Pat Murphy is nearly finished with the outfitting of the 40-foot container turning it into a very attractive and functional shop/storage building. We still need to pour a concrete slab between the transmitter building and Pat's container shop and put a roof over it so larger jobs can can be done out of the blazing sun but in the Caribbean breeze. Pray with us for this need to be met. Janice is doing a great job in the office – it's been over 10 years since we have had a full-time secretary!

The Lord gave us a boost in our desire to clear the all the bush on our property. The Ministry of Agriculture offered to clean the pond which is partly on our property and ended up clearing about an acre of thick bush while they were “between jobs.” That all came about because the Agriculture officer came to inspect the small farm tractor we have requested a duty concession for. Pray with us that we will receive the duty concession which will reimburse us several thousand dollars.

The Steel's have enjoyed a visit from their two daughters over the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Richard Little has had some trouble recently with his sciatic nerve “acting up.” Pray for the Doctor to have wisdom in treating him and relief from the pain. Continue to pray with the Littles for the Lord's provision to finish their house project.

John McPherson has been busy working on our various equipment failures. We thank the Lord that he is truly a “jack of all trades!

The Louises ask for you to help them pray as they consider/pray for/desire a house of their own.

Our listeners write...

from Grenada... Each day I draw strength and comfort from Harbour Light. What a blessing!
from Trinidad... Your programmes have continued to be so uplifting throughout the years. Never does it get to old to turn on the radio to AM1400!
from St. Vincent... We pray that the Lord will supply the funds you will need to be able to take care of the various needs the station has. The Harbour Light is truly a blessing. Thank God for you!
from Grenada... I am a regular listener to the Harbour Light station. I enjoy the programmes, especially the music. May God continue to bless you all.
from St. Vincent... The Harbour Light is very precious to me and [my husband].
from Barbados... Thank you for the Harbour Light. It has been a wonderful blessing to me. Thank you for the gift which you sent to me, and now it is time for me to give to the Lord's work. I pray every day for all of you at the Harbour Light that God will continue to bless you and strengthen you and keep you in His will as you continue to work for Him.
from St. Vincent...
Indeed we are blessed to have preachers like [your broadcasters] to share the Word of God with us. The Harbour Light is the only radio station that is played in our home unless we tune in at intervals to hear our local news. Thank you very much and keep up the good work. God bless you.
from Barbados... It is wonderful to know that there are people out there willing, ready and able to spread the word of God to those who are willing to accept it. Thankfully, I'm one of those persons who is willing to learn and eager to accept the word of God. Thank you for your programmes and prayers... Also to the ladies – Francina and Jennifer – words cannot express what I would like to say, but because of you ladies I am a better woman and most of all an understanding wife in more ways than I ever expected - I can become “thank you!”

Notes:
“Thank you” to all who have given towards the wind generator project! Funds are coming in but we still have a long way to go. A wind study was done on our property many years ago for the local power company but we need to purchase the equipment to do our own current wind study. Continue to pray for God's direction and provision for this project.  A Team from Calvary Baptist Church of Findlay, OH is planning to be here around Easter time to help us re-guy the tower. Pray for safety.

December, 2009

Dear Christian Friends,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord of Life; Jesus Christ. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. Luke 2:30-32

Christian Christmas greetings to you from everyone on the staff of the Harbour Light. I was recently reminded that there are three Christmases which people celebrate. There is the “commercial” Christmas that is filled with idolatrous covetousness and where “Santa” is king. Christians should have nothing to do with this Christmas. The “cultural” Christmas is where many of our accumulated traditions come from – the Christmas tree, Yule logs, presents, decorations, lights of all sorts and etc. - which is not bad in and of itself and can be fun. Of course, the commercial Christmas and the cultural Christmas tend to get all mixed up and we must be careful not to allow the commercial Christmas to get in to whatever cultural Christmas we can participate in as Christians. The Christian Christmas is the one we need to greatly emphasize. This is the celebration of the incarnation (coming in human flesh) of God the Son to be the Saviour of the world. We must very carefully guard the Christian Christmas from being influenced or over taken by both the commercial and the cultural Christmases. We don't want anything to come between the Light that lightens the Gentiles and the people who need to clearly see the salvation that is so beautifully expressed in the Christian Christmas – the incarnation of God the Son; the Lord Jesus Christ!

We have been given the gift of encouragement and blessed with the fellowship, support and prayers of so many of you – listeners, supporters and friends. God bless you for your participation with us in the great commission that we all have been given by God; the joy and blessing of...

November 2009

Dear Praying Friends,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! I am sending you to open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:1

We are busy getting ready for our 18th anniversary by preparing to host another Radio Bible Conference and a delightful lineup of Christ-exalting Christmas programming. The Radio Bible Conference will begin the week of Sunday the 22nd of this month. We will be drawing messages from the Lighthouse Baptist Fellowship Conference held at Grace Baptist Church this past July in Barbados, the Congress of Fundamentalists held at Foundations Bible College in Dunn, NC in October, and a recent “Worship In Song” music conference by Scott Aniol of Religious Affections Ministries.

Our Christmas programming will begin December 1 and will include many special features including cantatas, drama, readings, music and our own “Christmas Potpourri!” Schedules will be available shortly for both the Radio Bible Conference and our Christmas programming. We invite you to clear you schedule as much as you can so you can listen! Your heart will be warmed and your spirit lifted as we center our attention on God incarnate - not just on the babe in a barn, but upon the Lord of Life! Maranatha!

Thank you very much for your prayers, support, and encouragement! We praise the Lord for the fellowship that we have in Christ which has enabled us for the past 18 years to proclaim the Gospel to tens-of-thousands of listeners who tune in daily. Just the other day a listener from St. Lucia visited us here at our studio. She said "I grew up listening to the Harbour Light" and that the programming continues to have a big impact in her spiritual growth. We praise the Lord for the hundreds of prayer warriors and supporters, the dozens who call, email and write each month. To God be the Glory, great things He has done and will continue to do as we keep our focus on...

October 2009

Dear Fellow Christians,

Greetings in the Name that is above every name: the Lord Jesus Christ! At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar. 1 Chronicles 26:18

We were reminded recently about how much the Harbour Light is a blessing to our listeners. The air conditioner which helps to protect the transmitter from the damaging salt blast and heat failed which in turn caused a failure in the transmitter. John repaired the transmitter with a spare hoping it would last until new parts arrived. It failed after only four hours which left us off the air for more than two days. We received many calls and some emails from listeners who expressed a sense of spiritual loss at not hearing the Harbour Light. Praise the Lord for bringing the parts in record time in answer to prayer.

My father, Rolen Cornelius, loved a good laugh and often quoted the verse above as his “life verse.” Maybe he wasn't really being funny! The context of this verse is the posting of guards or porters to protect the entrances to the temple. There is a salient spiritual application. Recently I heard a message from Romans 12:1-2 on the Harbour Light. The preacher was admonishing us with the words: "be not conformed to this world." There is a serious discussion going on right now among Christians about the worldliness that is flooding into churches, schools and other organizations. Many Christians are no longer able to make spiritually discerning choices. Why? We damage our spiritual perception when we allow our world to shape us instead of the Word of God. That shaping comes because of our context (where we live and the "normal" bombardment of the world upon us) and the complacency toward worldly pleasures that grows in our hearts if we are not actively fighting against it. The more we conform (whether consciously or unconsciously) to the world, the dimmer our spiritual vision will be. It is an apostasy - a giving up of formerly held biblical principles and truth for some seemingly “good” reason – which will someday empty out into “The Apostasy” which the Apostle Paul predicts will occur before the second coming of Christ. Because it often happens relatively slowly, it is difficult to detect until it is nearly too late to turn around! Hence the need for a consistent "spiritual service of worship" and a renewing of our minds through a constant exposure to the pure Word of God. How is your spiritual perception? Are you guarding against the pressure of the flesh and the world to give in here or there? Do you have “four at the causeway and two at Parbar?”

May the Lord continue to use this radio beacon to shine God's Light upon all who tune in with radio and heart.

Spreading the WORD,

  • The Steels have been in the USA for the past month because Sharon's mother became ill and then died. They were thankful to be able to arrive at her bedside before she passed away. Pray for them as they return and continue with their work both here at the Harbour Light and at Windward Bible Church.
  • Mama C (Arlene Cornelius) has been in the USA on a furlough to have an evaluation of her left knee and leg. Surgery was ruled out, and a new brace was custom made for her. Pray for her as she does some traveling (with the help of Martha Terpenning) to report on the work here. She plans to return in early January, Lord willing.
  • The Louises have been having vehicle trouble recently. Their bus has had several problems that have stretched their finances. from Trinidad... Enclosed is a bank draft to ensure continuance of your preaching of Salvation through the blood of Jesus Christ. I am over 91 years of age and have been blind for some time. Your programming gives to me the daily strength, courage and faith that I need in my daily walk with my Saviour and Lord.
from Barbados... You continue to do a work that is uplifting and inspiring to me and you give God the glory always. May God continue to bless and keep you.
from St. Vincent... I am sure that Harbour Light is serving the purpose for which God intended for it. I must say a big “thanks” for all the programmes aired. My little transistor is always tuned to the Harbour Light. It knows no other station.
from Trinidad... Thanks for the sound preaching, those wonderful songs and those stories. Thank God for Harbour Light!
from Carriacou... The Harbour Light makes my home a sanctuary - a refuge from the pounding drums of this demoniacally possessed world. My children love the stories. Thank you!
from Barbados... Thank you for the consistency of the word of God.  It is great!  I thank God for using [the programmes] in such a marvelous way to expound the truth of His word.  When the station was off the air for a few days, I felt so lost without it and I even emailed you, however, when I tuned in that night, you were on again.  I thanked God.  I think it was in your first year of broadcasting, I was just searching on the radio for something uplifting for my soul when I heard your station and over the years you have been a tremendous blessing to me and to so many - that only eternity will tell.  Through all the difficulties, you have remained faithful and consistent; your station is really "A Beacon" for the Caribbean.

Projects for prayer:
  1. The Wind power company we are talking to wants to see a wind study done at the site of our proposed wind turbine. A wind study was done on our property many years ago but we need to do another one.
  2. We need to pour a concrete slab and put up a roof between the transmitter building and the container to provide an adequate area for maintenance projects. Pray for the funds and the help to accomplish this soon.
  3. We need the help of a carpet layer to replace the carpet in the Studio and office buildings. We have everything but the expertise to do this project!
  4. A small team from Pastor Gordon Dickson's church in Findlay, Ohio will be coming in the spring, Lord willing, to replace the rusting guy wires on the tower.
  5. The Lord has given us a small offset press which, Lord willing, will be used to provide local Pastor's and lay leaders with much needed teaching and discipling tools. Pray for the Lord to provide the place and the person to utilize this asset fully.

Dear Praying Saints,

Christian greetings to you in the name of our risen and soon coming Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ! To those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life. Romans 2:7

Thank you for your prayers! Janice Murphy has arrived in Carriacou to join her husband, Pat, as God's newest additions to the staff of the Harbour Light. We have been praying for several years for this day to come and, praise the Lord, He has answered those prayers. The Lord has called them here and now He has brought them here. Janice will take up the task of Harbour Light secretary and manage the office. We have been without a secretary for many years so she will be a wonderful blessing to us.

Continue to pray for the safe arrival of a 40 foot container with much needed supplies, parts, tools and equipment to outfit the Harbour Light and staff to be better equipped to do the work God has called us here to do. We have received word that most of the duty concessions we requested have been granted. Praise the Lord! Pray that God will provide whatever funds will be required to facilitate the contents of the container all the way to Carriacou.

Thank you for your support! It is a great encouragement to us when we see God provide for the needs here without our “begging” from listeners or donors. It is one indication that God is pleased with this work and that He wants it to go on. The Lord has used many of His dear saints whom He has enabled to support this work over the years. That does not mean that we have never been “low.” We often must dip right to the bottom of the barrel. But God is able to do abundantly above all we could ask or think – and has proven that to us many times. The question is, “Are we obeying Him and doing all His pleasure?” That is our desire and prayer. We thank the Lord in advance for the wonderful way He will continue to provide for this work to prosper for His glory. All the staff join me in expressing greetings and gratefulness for your prayers for us and for your part in this work. May God be glorified in each of us and in His Son as we go on carefully and prayerfully...

PS There has been very little activity in the Wind Fund recently. We thank the Lord for when and how He will provide for this project.  Thank you for praying!

Dear Citizens of Heaven,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Ephesians 1:2

Pat Murphy arrived in Carriacou ahead of his wife who remains in the USA until the birth of their latest grandchild. As soon as Janice has held that new grandchild for a few days, she will join Pat here in Carriacou. Pray for a safe delivery of this blessing from the Lord and for a safe trip for Janice when she comes later this month, Lord willing. Pray for the Lord's provision and help for handling the container which is now on the way.

Mama C” is doing well in the USA. Her doctor has said that her knee is too weak for surgery to be effective and has prescribed a “hip to toe” brace for her. She plans to remain in the USA until January so she can be with two of her children and their families for Christmas.

Sharlene returns this month from her trip to the USA. She was successful in her masters class. Thank you for your prayers for her. Pray for Caroline as she begins her final year and for Mary as she begins her freshman year at Bob Jones University. The Lord has provided for one of our Harbour Light Christian School teachers, Jane Jaffier, to further her education at BJU this fall! Pray for provision for incidentals and her adjustment to a new culture.

The Louises have taken a two week holiday this month. Little Haddasah is growing fast and is a beautiful baby. The Littles have been a blessing as they have helped “baby sit” my children while Sharlene has been gone. This has allowed me to get more done at the station than I would have otherwise. Continue to pray for the Littles house project. They have not been able to do much on it in recent months. The walls are just about up to ring beam level.

McPhersons are busy with VBS and special meetings at Open Door Ind. Baptist Church this month and the Steels continue to fill in for Windward Bible Church.

Each of us on the staff sends you greetings. Thank you so much for your prayers, encouragement and support. Pray for the windows of Heaven to open for us.  We trust you are well and looking up; truly the coming of the Lord is near, so let's keep...

Greetings in the Name of our soon-coming Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ Who said, behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book. Revelation 22:7

Thank you for praying for Richard as he went to Trinidad for the funeral of his father. Richard's son, Nathanael, accompanied him on that trip. Richard's father has made a profession of faith, and from some of the things he said we believe he was genuinely saved. Continue to pray for other unsaved family members to come to Christ.

Praise the Lord, the permits for the Murphys to enter Grenada permanently arrived in time for Sharlene, Mary and "Mama C" to take with them to the USA. The Murphys are busy making ready for their final move to Grenada which will be by August, Lord willing. Between the last items the Murphys need to bring down and the needs on this end for supplies and equipment, another container has been scheduled to be shipped. That container should be on the way by the end of this month, Lord willing. Pray for the Lord's provision for the total cost of shipping and duties.

The rest of the staff send their greetings. The Steels arrived back home in Carriacou safely. Thank you for praying for them. They had a good trip but are very glad to be back “in the saddle.” “Mama C” had her knee looked at this week. Pray for wisdom for doctors to know how to help her. Sharlene will begin her summer school class at Bob Jones University next week. John McPherson has been working to save his pickup truck from the blight of rust in order to be able to continue to use it a few more years. Pray for strength and grace to continue.

I was in Barbados recently for the Lighthouse Baptist Fellowship Conference. There I spoke to a number of friends who are very thankful for the programming on the Harbour Light. The programmes have become a spiritual lifeline to many, many people. One listener told me how he was saved listening to the Harbour Light! Praise the Lord for using these programmes for His glory.

Pray for the Lord's provision for the many needs here – the financial and equipment needs as well as the physical and spiritual needs. Time seems to be “flying” faster and faster these days. Amen, even so come quickly, Lord Jesus!

Dear fellow strangers and pilgrims,

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. As our family read through Hebrews recently, I was reminded again of the kinds of words that came from the mouths of those saints of old. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Hebrews 11:13

Pray for Richard Little as he is in Trinidad visiting his unsaved father who is dying of liver cancer. He recently found his father after years of searching. Pray for Richard and others to have good opportunities to witness to him and that he will be responsive and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour before he dies. The Lord could miraculously spare his life if He chose to; however, he is not expected to live more than a few days. Pray for the miracle of salvation in his heart.

Thank you for praying for the Steels. They continue to move around visiting friends and family. I believe they have a couple more doctor's appointments before their planned return at the end of this month.

The Murphys continue with final preparations to move to Carriacou. Pray that their residence visas will be ready before Mama C, Sharlene and Mary (who has been teaching at HLCA) leave in early July so they can take the documents with them. Lord willing, a container will be loaded sometime later in July with the rest of Murphy's belongings as well as equipment and supplies for the Harbour Light. Pray for the Lord to continue to provide the extra funds needed for purchasing and shipping these items which are needed to maintain the facilities and to extend the outreach of the ministry in various ways. Among the things going into the container will be 2000 feet of guy wire with the hardware to replace the rusty guy wires on our tower, a small tractor and, Lord willing, a small color printing press which will be used to provide good quality Christian literature for free distribution.

Praise the Lord with us for God's provision of two new teachers for Harbour Light Christian Academy – Lenica Fisher from St. Vincent and Skitter Jones from Carriacou! Both are recent graduates of the Baptist Bible College of the Caribbean in St. Vincent. They will replace two of our young teachers who are planning on going to Bob Jones University this fall. Pray for the Lord to provide the funds they need – especially for Jane Jaffier who needs funds for a full year due to the standard US immigration policies.

The work of the Lord does not go forward here or anywhere else without challenges, difficulties and discouragements. Our enemy does not want the Lord's work to prosper spiritually. It is good to know and experience the fact that God is far greater than the Devil, absolutely able to do abundantly above all we could ask or think and lovingly caring for you and me. Thank you for your fellowship, support, encouragement and friendship in this pilgrimage of faith; in this pilgrimage of...

Dear Citizens of Heaven,

Greetings in the Name of our soon-coming Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ! Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf. 2Corinthians 1:11

Praise the Lord with us for the Lord's provision of the Murphy's support! Lord willing they will be here this summer – probably July or August. Thank you for your prayers for them as they traveled to share their burden for the work here. Praise the Lord for many more people who will be under girding the work here with prayer. Pray for the Murphys now as they pack and prepare to come.

This month marks one year that the Steel's have been here in Carriacou. They are living near Windward in the same house that the Ekbergs lived in when they were here. They are both very involved in the ministry of the Harbour Light as well as Windward Bible Church. Lord willing they will be leaving next week for a six-week trip to the USA for medical checkups and to visit family and friends. Please pray for safety as they travel those many miles.

Our main and standby generators are about 15 and 20 years old now and are running at full+ capacity. We have been having various troubles with them in recent times due to their age and constant use. We need wisdom to know how to prioritize our power needs. The generators have functioned very well for us over these many years accumulating over 100,000 hours of operation! They have provided safe, stable and efficient power for our facility since 1991.

Thank you for your prayers, your support, your help, your encouragement and your love because of Christ and for the Gospel as it goes out over the air! God bless you as He has used you to bless us and tens of thousands of listeners. I just got off the phone with a retired teacher who is now blind. He praises the Lord for the Harbour Light because it has helped him tremendously in his walk with the Lord, testimony to others, and leadership in his church. He is one of many Harbour Light prayer warriors. May the Lord receive all the glory for what He has done in and through this ministry of...

April, 2009

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Thank you for your faithful prayers and support. Many women were there looking on from a distance who had followed Jesus from Galilee while ministering to Him. Matthew 27:55

I was recently blessed to be reminded that there were many women who ministered to Jesus as He went about His ministry. There are several precious passages of scripture too often overlooked in the study of the life of Jesus including the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus. One of them is quoted above. Allow me to remind you of some others. Soon afterwards, He began going around from one city and village to another, proclaiming and preaching the kingdom of God. The twelve were with Him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means. (Luke 8:1-3) There were also some of the women looking on from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the Less and Joses, and Salome. When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and minister to Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem. (Mark 15:40-41) Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and other perfumes. (Luke 23:55-56)  And they remembered His words, and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. (Luke 24:8-10) -emphasis mine

The Lord Jesus was blessed and encouraged by these “many women” who ministered to Him and we today are blessed and encouraged by “many women” who continue to minister to Him by us with their means, words, presence, and prayer. I am amazed as I think about all those who fellowship with us in this ministry – that most are women! These women perform a variety of roles which enables us to be here and continue to proclaim the name of the Christ they love and for Whom they do these things. Many of these women are “at a distance” physically and some of these we have never met personally. Yet, there they are, ministering to their Lord through this work. Some are right here by us ministering quietly, and without fanfare. What would we do without the ministry of godly women? Eternity will reveal the extent and scope of their ministry and God will bless them with those coveted words “well done!”

But this brings up the question: Where are the men? Oh, yes, there were the eleven in Jesus day and we have some good, godly men who fellowship with us and with other such ministries, but where are the “many”? In these days of rising apostasy, where are the men who will not be ashamed to be a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? In the coming days of persecution, will there be many men standing up for the Truth of Scripture? Men, in “season and out of season,” we must be...

Staff News

The Murphys report that they have had good meetings and that their support has risen above the 80% mark!  Praise the Lord!  They continue to make plans to be here permanently by the end of this year or early next year.  Please continue to pray for safety as they travel and for the Lord to provide for the final expenses related to completing their move to Carriacou.

Richard and Francina continue to work on their house as they have time, money and help.  Please pray that they will be able to see the completion of their house in the near future.

Mama C, along with Sharlene and Mary will be traveling to the USA in July.  Mama C is going to have her left knee evaluated which may lead to surgery to correct a hyperextension problem.  Sharlene will be taking a two week summer school course at Bob Jones University to further her master's degree and Mary will be taking a summer job at BJU before beginning her Freshman year there this Fall.

The Steels are planning a 6 week trip to the USA beginning in May for medical checkups and are praying for the Lord to send short term and long term help for Windward Bible Church while Pastor Robinson continues to convalesce in the USA following his heart surgery and stroke.

Linus and Jennifer Louis praise the Lord for the safe arrival of their daughter Hadassah Leanne Louis born on February 11.  She and mom are doing well.  Jennifer is grateful for your prayers for her to have a good delivery.

John and Karen McPherson have been busy with their regular work of HLW station maintenance and programming as well as the added burden of pastoring Open Door Ind. Baptist Church.

We have also had some "team" help recently.  Corban and Sue Tabler were here in March for two weeks helping us with programming and data entry.  Randy had the pleasure of working for Mr. Tabler at Audio Services during the years he was at BJU.  It was a joy to have them here and as they said they "had a ball!"

Brother K. Labban from St. Vincent is here now.  He is an automobile painter by trade and has repainted Mama C's bus which was in great need of new paint.  Lord willing he will be helping to paint the Open Door Ind. Baptist Church bus and Linus's bus before he returns to St. Vincent.  Pray for good speed as he works.  We have enjoyed his fellowship and appreciate his help to get our vehicles protected from the harsh salty environment.

Dear Praying Friends,

Greetings in the Name of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

John M., John S. and Tyron (one of the young men from Open Door Ind. Baptist Church) took a trip to Grenada last week to work on the FM tower and antenna. They repaired the tower successfully but their attempts to repair the other two antenna elements “in the field” were not successful. Since one of them had already been repaired here in our technical shop, it was installed alone. The transmitter is back at full power in Grenada but missing two antenna elements. One element does not “beam” the signal out like multiple elements do but thankfully reports from listeners say they are hearing the FM again.

Linus and Jennifer Louis praise the Lord for the safe arrival of their daughter, Hadassah Leanne born on Wednesday the 11th of February at 5:55am. She was 7lbs, 8oz. Mother, Father and baby are doing well. Thank you for praying for them. Jennifer will be on maternity leave until April. In her absence, Sister Sharon Steel is doing a good job keeping up with the Bible correspondence school.

Mama C” (Arlene) and Mary Cornelius have returned safely from their trip to see family and friends in Dominica and Antigua. They had a marvelous time but are glad to be home again and we are glad to have them with us once again.

My wife, Sharlene, shared the following thoughts in a recent email to some young ladies. I want to share them with you. “In John 15:1-7 Jesus is telling us to do some important and impossible things. He said that we should obey Him and love others perfectly, wholeheartedly, unconditionally, and continuously. We are told to obey as Jesus did and to love as He loved which was perfect, wholehearted, unconditional, and constant. That is a huge command! It is only possible to do this as we abide in Him. We are abiding when we keep close communion with Him and obey His Word. The result will not only be lasting fruit, but also joy – the kind of joy described in the words of the song 'joy unspeakable and full of glory.' This joy is so wonderful it can't be described fully, and so worth having that you would never want to be without it. I pray that this may be more true of your life each day. All things are possible through Him.” Loving God with all the heart will overflow into loving others and will cause us to earnestly continue...

February 2009

Dear praying Friends,

Greetings in the Name that is above every name and at Whose name every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord of all, to the glory of God the Father; Jesus Christ!

We have been having trouble with our FM translator system in Grenada. The transmitter went off the air on Sunday January 25 and we are still not back to normal. The fact that there were two problems (transmitter and the antenna) and the fact that the transmitter site is in Grenada naturally has complicated the repair process. We are waiting on parts to arrive so we can get the transmitter back to full power. In the mean time the antennas in Grenada must be repaired and two rusty sections of tower replaced. Please pray for the parts to arrive very soon and for wisdom and protection for Bro. McPherson and Bro. Steel as they work on these repairs.

The Staff are all doing well. We are still waiting the arrival of the latest edition of the Louis family. Jennifer is due on the 10th. Pray for a safe delivery and a healthy baby. The Littles praise the Lord for a boost to their house project recently. A friend from Grenada came over and helped Richard by laying blocks for several days. They are getting close to the ring beam! Pray for God's provision for help and resources to finish this project soon. The home they presently live in was built in the 1940s and is not in very good condition. When the Littles move out, the owners plan to bulldoze the house.

“Mama C” (my mother) and Mary (my second daughter) are currently in Dominica visiting my brother, Tony, and his family who are church planters there. They will be traveling to Antigua in a few days to spend a week with my youngest brother, Jonathan and his wife, Becky. The Steels continue to fill in at Windward Bible Church (while Robinsons are away on medical leave) but are in need of help. Pray that the Lord will send help soon.

These are days of wars, rumors of wars, pestilences, all kinds of crises, increasing lawlessness, supernatural hatred, impotent cries for “peace,” many false prophets of various kinds leading many people into sin and apostasy because their love for God has grown cold. Oh, that God would break our hearts because of our coldness, our lack of the fear or dread of God & our pragmatic approach to Christianity! It is a challenge to remember that these are the very days that the Word of God assures us that the Gospel of the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole inhabited earth as a testimony to all the nations! Thank you for your prayers and support!! We have Divine impetus to continue...

January 2009

New Years greetings to you from all of us here at the Harbour Light! We trust that this year will be filled full with trusting the Lord in the midst of uncertainty, obeying the Lord in the midst of disobedience, and looking for the Lord in the midst of scoffers.

Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, “I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage. I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. “Then I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. “I will bring you to the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you for a possession; I am the Lord." Exodus 6:6-8

One of the great crying needs of our day is to stand without apology for the truths of scripture and to draw clear applications of those truths to our present generation. In his book Spiritual Leadership, J. Oswald Sanders who became general director of the China Inland Mission draws some striking applications from the Israelites departure from Egypt to his day(1960's). I think they are well worth repeating to cause us to think deeply about our own day of sweeping compromise. He writes [pp131-132] “Can we waive a principle to reach agreement? Lowering standards is always a backward step, and compromise nearly always requires it. The epic contest of Moses and Pharaoh is a classic example of the temptation to compromise. When Pharaoh realized that Moses meant to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt, he used cunning and threats to frustrate him. 'Worship God if you will,' was his first overture, 'but don't leave Egypt to do it.' A modern equivalent would be: 'Religion is okay, but don't be narrow about it. No need to let religion isolate you from the rest of the world.' When that approach failed, Pharaoh tried something else: 'If you must go out of Egypt to worship, don't go far. Religion is fine, but there is no need to be fanatical about it. Stay as close to the world as you can.' Yet a third attempt played on natural affection: 'Let the men go and worship, and the women and children stay here. If you must break with the world, don't force such a narrow lifestyle on everyone else in the family.' Pharaoh's last attempt was an appeal to greed: 'Okay, go. But the flocks and herds stay. Don't let your odd religious commitments get in the way of business and prosperity.' With clear spiritual insight Moses cut through each evasion: 'Not a hoof is to be left behind,' he said(Ex. 10:26).” (emphasis mine)

May God give us men with the depth of spiritual discernment that Moses had to lead God's people far away from "Egypt" in these closing days of apostasy. Thank you for your prayers and gifts which enable us to continue...

Staff News:

  • Linus and Jennifer Louis are expecting a baby in February! Pray for a safe delivery and a healthy baby.
  • Randy & Sharlene (& children) have enjoyed having their oldest daughter, Caroline, home for Christmas. She is in her Junior year at Bob Jones University majoring in Youth Ministries. Sharlene resumed her ladies Bible study late last year.
  • The Littles invited the entire staff plus several other friends to dine with them on Christmas day – about 32 people! They had a beautiful backyard dining room set up with tables and chairs. Everyone had a lovely time of lively fellowship and wonderful food! Continue to pray for God's provision to finish their house.
  • Mama C praises the Lord for good health and will be traveling in February with her grand daughter, Mary, to visit sons Jonathan in Antigua and Tony in Dominica.
  • John & Sharon Steel have settled in well to their home in Windward and have made some good inroads with their unsaved neighbours. They hosted a Thanksgiving dinner and a Christmas tea for ladies. John has been filling the pulpit at Windward Bible Church while brother Robinson is in the USA recovering from surgery and a stroke. Pray that God will provide someone to take over this work until Robinsons are able to return.
  • John and Karen McPherson have been very busy. Karen did an exceptional job planning and scheduling the Christmas programming last year. John has had his hands full recently just trying to keep the equipment going. We have had troubles with our generator, transmitter and air conditioners. In addition to working at HLW, John Pastors Open Door Ind. Baptist Church.

Our listeners write...
from Grenada... Greetings and best wishes to yourself and the Harbour light team. Day by day, we continue to appreciate the positive influence of Harbour Light radio, as a media for positive change. As everything else, you have an ongoing opportunity to improve as you grow, but you are as good as any of the gospel of Christian broadcasting radio stations, but better than many. Keep up the good work, as you move from darkness into life.
from Trinidad... I continue to enjoy the radio programmes from which I have obtained a great amount of spiritual information and guidance.
from St. Vincent... The HL staff has been part of our family over the years and we are happy to have you! We thank our God for you. The programmes are a blessing. My mom enjoys them a lot; they are her comfort and solace daily. She is unable to write as before.
from Grenada... I am a regular listener to the Harbour Light station. I enjoy the programmes, especially the services, prayer, Talking Book and many others. May God continue to bless you all and give continued strength and grace.
from St. Vincent... I am a born again Christian for the past 28 years. I am enjoying my Christian life. I am very happy for your radio station. It is a different station & I love to listen to it. Your radio station has become part of my life. I always pray for everyone and your needs that God will continue to meet them. Stand strong in Him and keep looking up – He is coming soon!
from St. Vincent... I must say that you all are doing a great job at that station; keep it up! We sleep and wake with the Harbour Light. I look forward with great anticipation to the programming and soul touching preaching; they make my day. My gratefulness to you and your family for encouraging my heart. I would like to thank you and your parents for answering the call of the Lord and obeying the prompting of the Holy Spirit for coming and starting this work in Carriacou. May God bless you. Love to all. Never give up. Remember, we are praying for you all.
from Eastern Canada... I just wanted
to tell you that I am finding your station's streaming on the internet to be the most dependable of all of the Christian, Caribbean radio stations that I have found out there. As I am sure you know, there are quite a number, but many I cannot "play" at all, or they are hit or miss. Harbour Light must have an ideal set-up in this regard. Praise Jesus for your wonderful broadcasts. I must be getting "old", because I find so many Christian radio stations only seem to play the (so called!) modern, contemporary music - all the "bang, boom, crash & noisy" stuff that seems to lack a distinct melody!!!! Your station's music has such a distinct sound that I find myself seeking it out - time and again. Again, Sir, many thanks for your good work and Harbour Light's strong, vibrant witness to a struggling listener base.

Notes:

* We are happy to introduce to you Pastor Tom Marshall and the Walking in Truth broadcast. Walking in Truth can be heard on Tuesday evenings at 7:15PM (Atlantic Standard Time) This programme is sponsored by Faith Baptist Church of Wheaton, Maryland.

* Thanks to all who have given towards the wind generator project. We will move forward on this as God supplies the funds needed.  We have a long ways to go!

Dear Friends in Christ,

Christmas greetings from Carriacou! May God's grace be yours in all the fullness of His perfect will, this Christmas and all the new year through! I cried with all my heart; answer me, O Lord! I will observe Your statutes. I cried to You; save me And I shall keep Your testimonies. I rise before dawn and cry for help; I wait for Your words. Psalm 119:145-147

We have been “crying” recently because the road to the radio station has become a “dry creek bed” as a result of the otherwise wonderful rainy season we have had. Pray that this road will be repaired soon. The fuel truck has difficulties delivering if it gets too rough. At this moment our AM transmitter is in low power after several components failed due to heat and age. We had to order $1000 worth of spare parts. Pray that we will be able to get back to full power very soon. Recently the generator shut down after a “plug” of water (evidently in the last shipment of fuel) got into the fuel lines. John M drained several gallons of water out of the run tank and water separators!

Many people in this world are “crying” these days because of reversals of various kinds – political, economical and health are a few. It is biblical to “cry.” However, we need to be careful how we cry. We need to cry sincerely, to the right Person and for the right reason! Humanely speaking, these are uncertain times but, praise the Lord, Jesus is at hand! He alone has the answers. He stood up and cried “Come unto Me!” May He give each of us the grace to proclaim His Name this Christmas and in the coming year (come what may) by our words and deeds. Maranatha!!

Wind Turbine Update - Praise the Lord for a few people who have encouraged us by designating funds for the wind turbine project.  A fund is set up at ARMS to hold those gifts until we are ready to use them.  Since we are now planning for a "stand alone" system instead of connecting to the local power grid, John M is working on a new cost estimate.  I hope to have a more detailed update on the wind turbine project next month.  Thank you for your prayers!

Dear Christian Friends,

Greetings in the Name of our Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ! I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers, because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints; and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ's sake. Philemon 1:4-6

We have been busy these days doing a lot of maintenance on the facilities here at the Harbour Light. One air conditioner (in the transmitter room) which has been down for months is now back in service, praise the Lord. It has had problems that have baffled us as well as the three refrigeration engineers who have worked on it. Had we known that the repairs would be so difficult and costly, we could have saved money by purchasing a new unit! It appears that it is happier running on the 230v local power grid than on our 208v generator grid. Pray that we will be able to find a “booster” so it will run on our grid. Other repairs included radiator and motor mount work on one of our 35KW generators, our 500 gal. “run” diesel tank and remote control system. Our facilities are now 17 years old which provides ministry opportunities for short-term “handymen” to come over and help us!

The Littles have been encouraged recently with some additional funds toward their house project. They are putting up the walls and should be able to attain the “ring beam” without too much difficulty. Pray for the Lord to provide for the roof and the finishing work (windows, doors, electrical etc.). The Murphys have been busy setting up meetings and are praying about choosing a date for their move to Carriacou! Pray for the Lord to provide the rest of what they need to come. Karen has been busy putting together the Christmas programming for December. The 2008 Christmas Programme Guide is now ready so we have enclosed a copy so you won't miss a single special feature.

Fuel prices have again risen sharply here in Grenada which in turn affects the cost of everything else and challenges us to pray more and have a greater dependence on the Lord. We know that this world will become worse and worse and along with it the circumstances of our lives until our Lord returns to “be glorified in His Saints.” Until then, we have a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate true Christianity to greater degrees. A broadcaster recently commented “You can't be a 'Christian' without being saved, but you can be saved without being a 'Christian'.” The title “Christian” was first given because it was descriptive of the believers in Antioch. May the Lord help us to reflect Him as we near the close of this “Grace” age of...

PS:  Pray with us for the Lord to provide the funds to purchase a wind generator.  A special fund has been set up to hold funds for this purpose.  "Thank you!" to those who have already contributed to this great need!

Dear Friends in Christ,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!  And of the Sons of Issachar, men who understood the times with knowledge of what Israel should do.... 1Chronicles 12:32a

At the top of our prayer list is the need for some kind of alternative power for the electrical needs of the Harbour Light.  We recently were informed that we would not be allowed to connect a wind turbine to the local power grid which means we will have to set up a “stand alone” system.  This is an answer to prayer because it provides direction from the Lord concerning what type of system we should get.  Brother McPherson continues his research on this but we must wait on the Lord regarding when to proceed and how to pay for it.  Thank you for your continued intercession for us in this matter.  We know the Lord will provide at the right time for the right system.

Staff News
  • Randy & Sharlene and family have returned safely home to Carriacou!  They are grateful to everyone who prayed, encouraged, helped, or hosted them along the way.  Most of all they thank the Lord for His protection, His provision & the wonderful meetings with family, friends and supporters.  Shortly after returning from the USA, several of the Cornelius children came down with the chickenpox.  Praise the Lord, no one else was infected.  The opening of Harbour Light Christian Academy had to be delayed until the chickenpox had run its course.
  • While the Corneliuses were in the USA, the Murphys came down to help at the Harbour Light.  They took advantage of being here to ship their container and begin getting their apartment ready to move into.  The Lord worked mightily on their behalf and brought their container here safely and with a minimum of duty charges.  They are back in the USA now looking to the Lord for His timing to bring them back to Carriacou full-time – we trust very  soon!  They have taken some major steps of faith by selling their house and moving all their belongings here.  Pray that the Lord will honour their faith and provide the rest of their support.
  • The Linus and Jennifer Louis are expecting their second child to be born sometime in February, 2009!  Pray for good health for Jennifer as she carries this new little gift from God.
  • The Littles have not been able to do much work on their house recently.  Continue to pray for the help they need to keep working on this need.  Other than a cold, Mama C & McPhersons have been doing well.

Dear friends and brothers in Christ our Saviour and King,  I am glad to have found a station to help shut-ins like my wife and I.  God bless you!
from Trinidad... Dear Friends and Brethren,  Your ministry has always been a special blessing to us with sound preaching and sacred music.  Thank you for your faithful work for the Lord.
from St. Vincent... Greetings in the precious Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.  These few lines are just to encourage you and the staff to continue the good work although with limited resources.  The Lord will provide.  We are keeping you all in our prayers.
from Tobago... Thank you for sending me from time to time the tapes requested.  I would like to congratulate you on the splendid job you are doing over the air-waves.  The messages which are meaningful, the drama and the beautiful music.  I just pray that many many people listen to the programmes – there is so much to gain.  People need to hear the Word of God.  Keep up the good work.
from Trinidad... So good to hear you all at the Harbour Light each day!  The world is so corrupt.  There is not a day that goes by that I do not hear my students say things which shock me.  Right now, we have a boy who is in a gang – he's only in primary school!  These children are so “worldly wise” these days.  They sing songs, watch TV programmes and listen to music that are so offensive.  I wish they would listen to the Saturday programmes for youth but they and their parents are not interested.  It is amazing how many signs of the times that we are witnessing.  It does not matter how “prepared” you are for a natural disaster.  When God says “go” man cannot stop it!  What an awesome God!  Why do people not fear Him?  Every time I think of His grace by which I am saved, I feel overwhelmed.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

Greetings in the name of our soon-coming Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ. “From there they sailed to Antioch, from which they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had accomplished.” Acts 14:26

The traveling Cornelius clan has returned home to Carriacou! We are indebted to the Lord and to many of His people for being used by Him to provide for us. “Thank you” to each of you who helped us along the way - whether by regular support and/or special gift. The Lord protected us as we drove over 10,000 miles and made about 30 stops to visit family, friends & churches to report on the work of the Lord through the Harbour Light. Praise the Lord for a wonderful trip but we are glad to be home! A couple of days after arriving home, two of our children came down with the chicken pox. Thankfully no one else has come down with it and, Lord willing, Harbour Light Christian Academy will open for the fall term on Monday, September 15 only two weeks late. The Lord has answered prayer and has given us another teacher for this school year. Several gifts have also been received in support of the school for which we are very grateful. Continue to pray for the registration of the school to be completed. We have been assured that the school is approved and will soon receive certification papers in the mail. So far, there are 13 students enrolled for this school year. Pray for more adequate facilities to house the school in the future and that God will continue to provide godly teachers and the students He wants to be enrolled each year. In the words of the school motto, pray that this will be a good year of “Preserving Young people for Christ!”

While we were away there was a lot of hard work going on here at the Harbour Light! A team from Midland Baptist Church in Kansas (USA) came and worked on the retaining wall behind the Studio and Office buildings. Praise the Lord, that project is now completed! The Lord answered many prayers for the Murphy's summer trip to Carriacou. Their Pastor Powell and another brother in Christ, Mark, came to install cabinets in their basement apartment of the mission house and to help with the foundation for their container to sit on at the Harbour Light. The container is now in place and will be used to provide more storage and maintenance facilities for the Harbour Light. Pray that the Lord will give the Murphys safety as they travel and that He will soon provide for them to return full time.

We have been having difficulties with some of the equipment due to age and/or use. Pray for wisdom as the men work on various projects in and out of the station to bring our facilities up to what they should be. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support for this work of...

Dear fellow Travelers,

Greetings from the middle of the USA – Kansas! Thank you for your prayers for me and my family as we have been traveling here in the USA now for several weeks and have driven about 7000 miles visiting supporting churches and family. We have had wonderful meetings and great times of fellowship with our brothers and sisters in the Lord. We have had several problems with our vehicles along the way but the Lord has protected us and provided for us in many ways. I will fill you in on all that when I return to Carriacou at the end of August, Lord willing.

Back in Carriacou things have been very busy! The Littles continue to work on their house as they have time and money. The Steels have settled into their “new” home in Windward and are fitting into the ministry well. The Louis, McPhersons and Mama C have been busy but are doing well. A team from right here in Kansas went to Carriacou in July to work on finishing the rear retaining wall and held a VBS at Open Door Baptist Church. They really worked hard and in a few days nearly finished the wall! Shortly after the team left, the Murphys arrived in Carriacou for the summer. They shipped their container and it arrived safely and was unloaded – a mammoth job! They are now working on getting everything sorted out and in its place. Later this month a small team will arrive to install the cabinets in the basement of the mission house – where the Murphys will be living. Lord willing, this will completely finish the work on the basement and it will be ready for the Murphys to move in. They will be returning to the USA in September to complete their deputation. Pray that their support will come in quickly so they will be able to return full time in the new year.

Pray for wisdom as we consider a proposal for a wind turbine that has been offered to us. Pray that if it is what God wants us to have, that He will provide and guide as we look to Him for direction. We know He has a plan to provide for the station and we want to be in the center of it. God bless you for your fellowship in this wonderful work of...

Dear fellow Pilgrims and Strangers,

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

Brother John Steel and I traveled to Grenada earlier this week to clear their container through customs. We had hoped that we could avoid handling the contents twice by doing the inspection here in Carriacou. However, the Lord had other plans and all things have worked together for good. Praise the Lord we only had to empty about half the contents of the container. The inspector stopped us after a little over an hour and declared that everything was nearly all used “household effects.” That meant that he was giving everything a 100% duty concession! The paperwork took longer to fill out than the unpacking/repacking of the container but everything was accomplished with the help of a Christian broker in Grenada who did not charge us for his work. Praise the Lord!

As we sat on the Carenage waiting for the Osprey ferry to take us back home to Carriacou, I mistakenly “recognized” an acquaintance from Carriacou. It turned out that she was the identical twin of my acquaintance. When she learned that we were from the Harbour Light her expression brightened and commented that she liked the balance of the programme schedule and appreciated the scripturally based Bible teaching.  Most of all she appreciated the music. She said “Your music is... well, Christian!”

Well, let me ask you a question. What else could it be?! What partnership does unrighteousness have with righteousness? What fellowship has light with darkness? What does a believer share in common with an unbeliever? What agreement do we have with idolatry? What business do we have looking or sounding ANYTHING like the world? Does what we say or sing come out of the world or out of God? Does it appeal to God or the world? How close to the “line” are we to live? Jesus says let your light so shine before men that they will see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven. It's high time that those of us who call ourselves Christians be... well, Christian!!

PS We are continuing to work on the wind power project.  Please pray that the Lord will direct us to the right system and that He will enable us to get it online soon!

Staff News

  • John and Sharon Steel arrived in May! Their container arrived in Grenada earlier this week so Brother Steel and Randy went over to Grenada to clear it through customs. The Lord gave them favour in the eyes of the customs official and the entire contents of the container were given 100% duty free concession! Praise the Lord! Since the container belongs to the Steels, there was a relatively small import duty charge for that. The container was safely maneuvered into place at the newly rented home of the Steels in Dover, Carriacou. The Lord has worked it out for them to have the same house the Ekbergs lived in while they were in Carriacou. Pray for the Steels as they get settled into their “new” house and into the routine of ministry here on Carriacou.

  • The Littles are moving along with work on their house. Presently the steps are being worked on. The exterior walls are also coming up. Continue to pray for them and for the help – both humanly and financially to finish soon. The rented house where they presently live is among the oldest houses on the island and is not in good condition.

  • John & Karen have arrived back in Carriacou after their month-long trip to the USA. Their youngest daughter graduated from Bob Jones University. They also took some time to visit friends and family.

  • Later this month, Randy, Sharlene and their 10 children will be taking a 10 week furlough/holiday in the USA to visit family and report to supporters about the work of the Harbour Light. They are praising the Lord for His amazing provision of the various needs related to this trip. Here are some highlights: Round trip tickets for the entire family, a place to stay while in Greenville, a 12 passenger “mini bus” for local and short trips, a 34 foot motor home for the 10,000 mile road trip to visit supporters and family, and nearly all the gas money for the road trip! The Lord is indeed Great! They are still praying that the Lord will provide a small camper for their use with the motor home to give more sleeping space. Pray also for safe travels and blessed times of fellowship and reporting on the work here in Carriacou.

Our listeners write...

  • from Trinidad... Thank you for your God-honouring programmes. Our days wold be dull and bleak without your uplifting, Christ-centered ministry. May God continue to bless all that you do and our gift be a blessing and a help in whatever way you see fit.

  • from Barbados... Thank you for faithfully spreading the gospel on Christ in this dark world. I have not written to you for a long time but I do listen and pray for this radio station because it is a place where one can always turn to hear something for the soul – and you have faithfully kept me informed by your news letter and I am grateful for that. Recently I listened to Pastor Minnick and Pastor Dickson and the Holy Spirit has just opened up my mind and through their teaching has helped me to see the death of a believer in a way I have never seen it before. I just praise and thank God for His Word and for those who faithfully preach and teach it.

  • from Grenada... I am sleeping with my radio in my bed. I am so happy for it. It is the best station in the world – my No.1 station. It keeps me going all the time. It keeps my heart on the Lord Jesus Christ. I don't know what I would do without it.

  • from Barbados... I think that your station is so beautiful. This has been my feeling for many years now, and I trust that this will always be the case. It is so encouraging and uplifting to spend the evening with Harbour Light. Actually, my main listening time is usually from 7.30pm or 8.00pm until sign off. Also, I find that more and more persons are becoming acquainted with the station, and are being blessed as a result. The atmosphere is being polluted with a lot of garbage by way of radio, and many so called gospel stations are simply following the dictates of the ungodly. No wonder your's is such a distinctly different sound ...refreshing! I know that the Enemy of our souls will never sit idly by and allow the work of the Lord to strive..this is why I know that we the listeners need to encourage you and to constantly lift you up before the Throne of Grace. Truth is...We need Harbour Light and more stations like you, more now than ever. Continue on in the Lord. Only eternity will reveal the true impact of your ministry. Thanks again for being a blessing to so many, and my prayer is for you to be always found in the very center of God's will. Keep trusting, He will provide everything you'll ever need to get the job done....all for His Glory. Again, thanks for such a wonderful ministry!

Dear Citizens of Heaven,

Greetings in the name of our soon-coming Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ!  In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.   John 14:2-3

It looks like we will have a lot of “comings and goings” this summer, Lord willing.  John & Karen McPherson have gone to the USA for the month of May to attend the graduation ceremony of their youngest daughter, Alyssa, from Bob Jones University and will be visiting family and friends.  Pray that they will have a good and restful holiday.  Rob & Linn Seiter have come to fill in for McPhersons at Open Door.  Brother Seiter has also been helping with some projects here at the Harbour Light.  By the end of May the McPhersons will come and the Seiters will go.  Then in June my family and I will go and the Murphys will come to fill in for us.  While they are here, we will be using their motor home for our furlough travels!  In August the Murphys will go and we will come back home.  During the month of July a work team will come to finish (finally) the retaining wall behind the studio and office buildings.

An exciting “coming” this week is the arrival of John & Sharon Steel.  They are coming to begin full-time work with the Harbour Light!  John is a radio engineer and Sharon is a nurse.  Pray for them as they begin looking for a house to rent.  Their container has been shipped so please pray that it will arrive safely.  Also pray that customs will be easy on them and that the transport of their container to Carriacou will go as smoothly as possible.

The Little's house project is coming along.  The walls are starting to come up with some hard work and the help of some of the Lord's people!  They are very grateful to you for praying for them.  Keep it up!  Everyone else is fine, praise the Lord.  Thank you for your prayers and support for us and this work!

We have received many comments from folks interested in the wind turbineencouraging us in our pursuit of this form of power for the Harbour Light.  Please pray that if this is God's will,  He will direct us to the right system.  Thank you for your faithful prayers and support!

The most exciting “coming” will be when the Lord Jesus returns to this earth on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory!  He came many years ago and went back to Heaven to wait for the right time to come again.  Meanwhile, He has commanded us to go into all the world and preach the Gospel - the reason your fellowship in this work is so becoming!  We must be obedient to the Heavenly charge to keep...

Dear Fellow Saints in Christ Jesus,

Greetings in the name of our soon-coming Saviour and King, the Lord, Jesus Christ! For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints, and this, not as we had expected, but they first gave themselves to the Lord and to us by the will of God. 2 Corinthians 8:3-5

We praise the Lord for the Men for Missions team members that was here last month. They finished the work on the basement of the missions house! The only thing that remains is to install the cabinets which have been donated but are not here yet. We are grateful to each team member for his fellowship in this work by helping us to provide housing for the Murphys. Continue to pray for the Murphys as they travel presenting the work of the Harbour Light to God's people and trusting the Lord to provide for them to come help us.

Have you ever noticed that people love “fellowship?” That is why the world is full of it – parties, clubs, socializing, support groups, church(!?) and more. Someone once said that socializing is when people get together to share the things of this world and fellowship is when people get together to share the things of Heaven.

Christian fellowship is one of the sweetest blessings believers can share with one another. It is something that they have received from God as a result of hearing and believing the Gospel and so it is a proper and blessed outgrowth of their special fellowship with Him. There are many these days who say they have fellowship with God but their life demonstrates fellowship with the world, not God. God warns us about having having fellowship with or participating in the things that are “of the world.” I am amazed that it seems so hard for so many Christian people to recognize when they are fellowshipping with the world. They adopt nearly every dark aspect of the world – sounds, dress, habits, entertainments – add a little “Jesus” to it and think God just has to be thrilled with them giving Him so much publicity! It matters a great deal to God whom and what we “fellowship” with. Saying we have fellowship with God does not make it true. If we say we have fellowship with God and yet keep on walking in the darkness of the sounds, dress, habits & entertainments of this world, we lie and are not practicing the truth! But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we can and will have true fellowship with one another and with our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

We have been encouraged recently by some special friends coming over to Carriacou to fellowship with us; to share their own testimonies about how the Lord has used the ministry of the Harbour Light in their lives; to share with us the testimonies of others who have received God's blessings through the programmes. They exemplified the passage quoted above because they first gave themselves to the Lord and then to us. We were moved by their earnestness to come and their love shown to us but most of all they blessed us with their love for and tenderness toward the Lord of the foundation of our fellowship, Jesus Christ!

Thank you so much for your faithful fellowship with us by your prayers, encouragement and support so we can by God's grace and blessing continue...

Spreading the WORD,

Staff News:
The
Louises are praising the Lord for recent blessings. The Lord has provided a house for them to rent in the village of Belvedere where Jennifer grew up. They have completed the moving process and have just taken up residence there. They desire your prayers that they be a light in that community.

John McPherson has been working hard on getting our standby generator back in shape after some bolts came loose, broke and sent the fan spinning into a fairly new radiator. The radiator was damaged beyond repair and a new radiator had to be ordered. Pray for him as he works hard at keeping the equipment working well.

The Little's house project is coming along, praise the Lord! They should be casting the floor before the end of the month, Lord willing. They are so grateful to the Lord and for those the Lord has used to meet their needs. Continue to pray for the strength to do the work and God's provision along the way. Thank you!

The Steels are working toward arriving in Carriacou sometime in March! Pray that their house will sell and that the Lord will strengthen them for packing and moving. They served the Lord in Antigua at our sister station (Caribbean Radio Lighthouse -1160KHz) for several years some time ago so they are looking forward to being among the beautiful people of the Caribbean once again!

The Harbour Light Christian School is in need of teachers and additional facilities for next school year. Please pray for God's provision for these needs.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Grace, mercy and peace to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart. 1 Kings 8:23

I have been reading through the books of the Kings recently and God has spotlighted a truth to my heart which I would like to try to share with you. Have you ever noticed that for every king there is a commendation or a condemnation? Something like... “he did that which was good in the sight of the Lord...” or “he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord....” In addition, there are two individuals God primarily uses to compare the rest of the kings to. God compares the “good” kings to King David and the “bad” kings to King Jeroboam. King David we know well. He was a man after God's own heart. He wholeheartedly followed the Lord. On the other hand, Jeroboam was a servant whom God elevated to be a sovereign. God told him he would be king over the ten tribes of Israel but he did not trust God to work it out. He worked things out for himself. Once he was king, he was afraid that the people would stay in Judah when they went to worship God at the Temple. So once again he did things his own way. He made two golden calves, appointed his own priests and sanctified his own day for worship. God warned him of his deviant worship but he did not repent so God cursed him and his house. Jeroboam's wholehearted disobedience affected nearly all the kings after him. Over and over God's indictment of the kings is... “he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam who made Israel to sin.” This sin tainted even the “good” kings who “did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, yet not like David his father. Howbeit the high places were not taken away...” Those “high places” appear to have been a temporary place of true worship in the absence of the Temple but now became a snare to the Israelites because Jeroboam built “houses on the high places and made priests of the lowest of the people which were not the sons of Levi.” In other words, he built “worship centers” based on a bit of true worship but primarily around what he devised in his own heart. This deviant worship became so commonplace among God's people that even God's enemies thought it was God ordained!! When Rabshakeh came to besiege Jerusalem at the command of the King of Assyria he chided the people for their trust in God concluding that God would surely not help them because their twenty-five-year-old King Hezekiah had torn the high places down! On the contrary, God was so delighted with Hezekiah's desire to do “according to all that David his father did” (and angry at Rabshakeh's defiance of God) that He sent His destroying angel into the camp of the Assyrians. Then we read those humorous words “and when they arose early in the morning, they were all dead corpses!” The next king, Manasseh, went right back to the sins of Jeroboam. Even the major reforms of the eight-year-old king, Josiah, and his wholeheartedness toward God could not turn the “fierceness of the wrath of God” toward Judah because of the wholeheartedness with which the twelve-year-old king Manasseh compounded the sins of Jeroboam!

Can you think of any “golden calves” (sacred cows) today? I'm thinking of “contemporary” Christian music. Those who use it do so because they are fearful that they will “lose people” and so resort to their own methods to keep them. This “sin of Jeroboam” so permeates Christianity around the world today that most “Christian” people (and many unsaved people) think it is something which God approves of! Christian people have become so accustomed to this “golden calf” that their ears are deaf to what is clean, sound, godly Christian music and they cannot discern whether a song has a rock beat or not (or don't care)! Some Christians are doing “what is right in the sight of the Lord” but do not wholeheartedly follow the Lord by removing the “high places.” The “high places” with their “golden calves” are but symptoms. The real problem is in the heart. It will require the wholeheartedness of a David or a Hezekiah or a Josiah to take the necessary action to recognize the deviant nature of the “golden calves,” tear them down and burn them. But there are too many Manassehs and too few Josiahs to appease the wrath of God now. This house of “Christianity”is far from pleasing the Lord with this deviant “worship” and they don't even know it!! Jesus Himself said “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Mt. 7:22-23) Do you have any “golden calves” or “high places” in your life? Will God give you his condemnation or His commendation? Let us follow the Lord and worship Him in the beauty of holiness through simple, wholehearted obedience to His Word.

Listeners Write...
from a couple in Trinidad...
We are deeply indebted to you all for making every day a blessing with the Harbour Light. What peace it is not having to listen to our local garbage in music as well as talk programs and to hear the reassurances from the Word of God to help us face the challenges and pressures of this modern, sinful world. Please accept our humble gift of thanks for your faithful ministry.
from Barbados... Dear Partners in Christ. Thank you for your gift in sending us the taped sermon. My family and I have been blessed tremendously by the Harbour Light radio and the unchanging Gospel of Christ Jesus. As we continue to pray on a daily basis for the work of the Gospel, we are more than convinced that this station is reaching and blessing the hearts of many. Once again, thank you all! And may the Good News be spread.
from Trinidad... The Harbour Light is on my prayer list... which continues to be a "Voice" proclaiming Truth over the airwaves which do not have the glamour of a TV viewing, yet the Word of God goes forth with power and conviction. Personally, I have come to a better understanding of a full and free salvation, thereby praying the prayer of total surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ as my Saviour. In these perilous times, this beacon of Light provides uplifting songs throughout the day untainted by commercials.
from Barbados... I never cease to thank God for the Harbour Light who plays such God honouring music, Bible studies and sermons that uplift Christians and give encouragement in these dark days. May God continue to bless you all and provide for every need. I am praying for you all and for souls to be saved.
from Florida... Greetings in our Lord's great name. Just returned from the land of my birth, Barbados, where I spent my summer vacation. I'm a public school teacher in Miami, Florida. I listened to your radio broadcasts daily while in B'dos. I enjoyed them and learned much as well.
from England... Found you whilst searching on the net. Looks a lovely place - everyone is nicely dressed in the photos. Listened to the sermon - very comforting indeed! Pity my husband isn't near; he could sort the generator out for you. Please pray for England; the Lord is being pushed out and our society now reflects the result. We are losing our guidance.
from Asia... Hello, I am from the West Indies but now I live in Asia. I used to listen to The Harbour Light station on AM radio in the past but after I came to Asia I couldn't pick it up on radio. So I couldn't listen to it for a long time. I am happy I can receive it now by internet. I always liked the closing song.

Broadcaster Notes:
The broadcaster notes are in the form of a listener's comments. She says "I note with great delight that Pastor Gordon Dickson has now been granted two daily programmes and that the period of Pastor Cairns programme has been extended. You certainly keep listeners refreshed and as indicated in Proverbs 11:25. You cannot refresh others without yourself being refreshed." (How true!) Listen at 7:45AM and 8PM for Pastor Dickson and at 10:30AM for Pastor Cairns.

Greetings in the Name of our coming Saviour and King, the Lord Jesus Christ.  “Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.” (2 Corinthians 1:11)

Hauling in the dragnet in Hillsborough, CarriacouYe also helping...” Thank you so much for your help!  The Harbour Light has been helped by so many people from so many places and in so many ways.  If it were not for this help we could not do this work.
Together...” Thank you for your fellowship!  It takes people working together to get things done.  No one can do very much by himself.  Together we can accomplish the Great Commission – "go ye into all the world!"
By prayer...” Thank you for praying!  The most important work that people can do together is to pray.  Jesus said that we must pray unceasingly!  By prayer we move the hand of God. God answers prayer!
For us...”  Thank you for thinking of us!  When we pray we must call people by name if at all possible.  Specific praying brings specific answers.  Jesus thanked His Father for hearing Him and he said Lazarus, come forth.  And he came forth!
That for the gift bestowed upon us...”  Thank you for the very precious gifts of your support, help, fellowship, and prayer!
By the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.”  To God be the Glory!  When God's people join together to do God's work God's way God's work gets done and many will spontaneously give glory to God for what He is doing!  May the Lord, when He comes, find us faithfully...

Staff News:
John & Karen McPherson arrived back in Carriacou just before the new year.  They have been busy getting their respective areas of responsibility back in order.  Karen in programme scheduling/logging and John in maintenance.  John also headed up a Men for Missions work team shortly after they arrived.  The team was working to finish the basement of the mission house in preparation for the arrival of the Murphy's sometime in the next year, Lord willing.  Another team is planning to come in July to finish the basement.
Pat and Janice Murphy will soon be able to go out on full-time deputation.  They have a motor home nearly ready to be their “home” for the final months of deputation.  Pray that God will burden just the right people and churches to support them so they can come soon. We need them!!
Mama C” (Arlene Cornelius) will be returning home to Carriacou this month!  She has enjoyed a wonderful furlough.  The Lord has given her safety over the many miles that she has traveled.  The Lord provided godly ladies to escort her on her trips out of the Greenville area. She was able to visit many supporting churches, family and friends. Mom plans to arrive home in Carriacou on the 18th.  Please pray for her as she packs and travels.
The Louis family is enjoying the small bus that the Lord provided for them late last year.  They have used it to help out with church pickup and for their home Bible study. Linus also uses it to help with staff transportation.
The Little family is praising the Lord for His provision to start the construction of a home for their family on land that was given to them by a Christian lady in New York.  The house they are currently living in is in very bad condition.  Please pray that the Lord will continue to supply this need so they won't have to stop until it's done!
The Harbour Light Christian Academy will have to find larger facilities for the 2007-8 school year.  Please pray that adequate facilities will be found soon.

We are indeed blessed to have you in our home everyday.  We continue to pray that this station will always be there standing on the Word of God, encouraging believers and shining out the gospel light to those in darkness.
From St. Vincent... Dear beloved friends and staff of the beloved Harbour Light station. Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  By this gift you may know how much I am enjoying the programs that come to me daily from signing on to signing off.  May the Lord bless the station and to provide the necessary need to keep it open.
From Tobago...Thank you for sending me the requested messages from time to time – I do appreciate this!  Congratulations on your programming. The music is very beautiful. I am glad that we still have one hour of classics at mid-day.  The stories, drama and messages from Pastor Gordon Dickson could be longer – Glimpses of Calvary is great!  Then there is St. Clair Archibald, Ron Hood, J. Bennett Collins, Mark Minnick – my favorites.  I pray for your guidance and protection and trust that many throughout the West Indies listen and gain spiritual upliftment through the programmes.  God bless you and keep you always.
From Grenada... Thank you so much for enriching our lives spiritually.  Please accept this gift.  May God's blessings be with you always. I am always praying for you.  Thanks for your prayers for me.
From Grenada... Just sending this gift to say thank you for the kind of music and programmes that brings me inner peace on early mornings.
From Barbados... Dearly Beloved in the Lord, Most holy, loving and sincere Christian greetings and blessings in the Lord from Barbados.  Grace, mercy and peace be greatly multiplied unto you and yours.  Quite recently I started listening to your wonderful radio station. I must honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy all of your broadcasters.  There are two very outstanding things I admire and appreciate 1) no women preachers and 2) the speakers are all very sound in their ministry and no shouting to get over their points. Keep up the good work!
From Trinidad... Thank you, Harbour Light.  Your music and programmes are a true source of blessing and comfort to me.  I say a big thank you to all of you who work at the radio station.  You are dependable and I can rely on you to keep me in tune and connected to God's kingdom.
From Barbados... What a privilege and a blessing it is to be able to listen to the Harbour Light.  It sure gives me great encouragement and joy to be able to listen with the assurance that God's name is lifted up at all times.  In these days when at times you listen to these so-called Christian stations you can't tell the difference between the secular ones.  I thank God for you all.  May He continue to bless the station and all who are involved in the day to day operations. Enclosed is my gift.  Please pray for my family...
From St. Vincent... I am a daily listener to your programmes.  This station is truly helpful to me in my relationship with the Lord.  I pray that God will bless all who have come together to make it possible.
From Carriacou... Continue to be faithful in giving out the Lord's word that we might hear and grow in the Lord and that the lost might see their need of the Saviour.  Keep up the high standards of programming that you put on the air.  The Lord bless you.
From Trinidad... I hope that the enclosed gift would help in some small way to support your very treasured ministry.  Your letters are so warm – like the Light that the HLW sends into our homes through the airwaves throughout the year.
From a “Kayak” studying in Mexico... hearing you guys everyday is such a wonderful blessing!! It feels so much like home and of course, I receive great encouragement from the Word.  And the music!! Jump high, jump low, no contemporary Christian song could compare to the wonderful hymns aired on the Harbour Light. I commend Bro. Randy for taking such a firm stand on what is acceptable Christian music and though many people may say that this whole matter of music is up to one's personal convictions, Bro. Randy can't go wrong with his.
From Virginia... Hi there, I'm an a believer in Jesus from Australia currently staying overnight by myself in a hotel in Norton Virginia. I'm in America on business. I'm listening to your output live on my laptop right now. I love your station, your programming and everything you stand for. I've read a lot of stuff on your web site. I would regard myself as quite discerning. I've done a lot of media work over the years. I would appreciate prayer because I can't sleep (could be partly due to jet lag), have a sore stomach and I feel a bit homesick!
From Florida... Dear Christian Friends, I am a Bajan. I listened to the Harbour Light today in the USA on line. Praise God for technology. I had not heard it for four years. But a Grenadian brother told me yesterday after Breaking of Bread that I could access it on line. I used to listen to the Harbour Lights (I called it 1400 AM) regularly on mornings at home, and whenever I was in my car i.e. from about 6;15 – 9 AM or 10 AM. The first day, I accidentally tuned into the harbour lights early in the 90’s I was in a back slidden condition. I happened to tune in when Jesse Boyd was teaching. I immediately said "I know that voice. I know that voice" But I couldn’t remember who it was and where it was I had heard it, because over 20 years had passed.  When the program was ended, I learned it was Mr Boyd. I felt very ashamed of myself. Mr Boyd had taught me in Sunday School and had acted as pastor of the Baptist church where I was disciple in Barbados for a month or so in the early 70’s. I was then a total novitiate. While a teacher at BJU, he had come to Barbados every year for about 4 years in the summer for three months each time, and had conducted SUMMER INSTITUTE OF BIBLE for three hours on each of three nights per week –the same college classes he taught at BJU. Hearing him teach again did a lot to turn me around. Now that I have access to HLW again, I am looking forward to hearing all the great teachers again,  plus my Brethren friends like Archie Carew, Willie Ashby, Dalmar, and Lionel Weekes. Keep up the great work. The level of Bible Teaching on HWL is tops!! The science, and the music is great too. Maintain your great standards especially on music. God's richest blessings!

Programming Notes: Let the Bible Speak with Pastor Alan Cairns is now 30 minutes long and is being aired at 10:30AM Monday - Friday.  The 15 minute programmes will be phased out soon.  "Glimpses of Truth" with Pastor Gordon Dickson will soon be aired in place of LTBS at 7:45AM in addition to the regular time at 8PM on weeknights.

December 1, 2006

Dear Christian Friends,

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. Isaiah 9:2

Christmas greetings from Carriacou!  Fifteen years ago today we began “Spreading the WORD” here in Carriacou.  But, that is not really where it all began!  It all began back in the 1950's when my father, Rolen Cornelius, boarded a ship in New York Harbour bound for Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa.  He was going to work at ELWA, a new and probably the first Christian radio station in Africa.  There he served the Lord with my mother (Arlene) for 16 years and there my brothers and sister and I were born.  In the early 70’s the Lord led our family to Antigua where my parents headed up the building of the Caribbean Radio Lighthouse.  In the late 80’s the Lord called my parents and my new family to begin another radio work in the Windwards.  On December 1, 1991 the Harbour Light began regularly scheduled programming!  The first song to be played was “Go Tell It on the Mountain.”  You can read about our first 10 years by visiting our web site or requesting the pamphlet.

The Lord has blessed the Harbour Light both materially and spiritually, not because of who we are but because of Whose we are and what He is doing through the programmes.  This year we have again heard from hundreds of listeners.  Their expressions of how God is working in their lives through the programming are such a joy to read.  Many have been saved.  Thousands have grown in the Lord; many have dedicated their life to the Lord.  Some have even come out of apostate denominations!  Presently, we have two Grenadian families working along side of us missionaries.  Richard & Francina Little have 4 children and Linus & Jennifer Louis have 3 children.  Richard and Linus are our main announcers but help out in a dozen or more ways.  Linus also produces a 15 minute weekly Bible teaching programme.  Richard does the “Prayer Time” programme each week.  Francina works with “Mama C” in the Children’s programming department producing five 30 minute “Captain’s Kids” programmes each week and Jennifer takes care of the 3000 or so students in our Bible Correspondence School.  In addition to Children’s programming, “Mama C” (currently on furlough) manages our office.  John McPherson is the station engineer and his wife, Karen, is our “weatherlady” and takes care of most of the programming “traffic.”  (McPhersons are due back from furlough this month.)  My wife, Sharlene, is Headmistress of the Harbour Light Christian Academy.  She is assisted by three other teachers.  The 16 students are made up mostly of Harbour Light staff children.

Praise the Lord for His faithfulness during these past 15 years!!  But where would we be without your prayers and support!?  Thank you for your faithfulness!  Please continue to pray earnestly that God will be glorified through His Word.  Pray that God will provide for the day to day operations.  Pray that we will keep the programming “clean” and clear.  Pray for us that God will protect us from evil and the evil one; that God will destroy any work of the enemy to destroy this testimony.  Pray that we will maintain a growing likeness to our Lord; that we will be faithful in our life, right in our heart and surrendered to Him in everything.

From all of us here at the Harbour Light we wish you a Merry Christmas and God’s best for the New Year!

Spreading the WORD,
Randy Cornelius & Staff

from Trinidad... Your radio ministry is a tremendous source of blessing and encouragement to my family and me. Our radio dials are always set on AM1400. My children come home from school anxious to hear the continuation of the 3:45pm “story time.” They also enjoy “Mr. Bill” and the many other programs for children. Being at home, I enjoy your daytime devotional messages, preaching, and sacred music. I learn many heart warming songs which I sing in Church with my family or with other individuals. They are indeed a great blessing to us all. We also enjoy reading your news letter and learning about all you are doing. We thank God for all of you and pray that you will continue faithfully proclaiming God's pure Word across the Caribbean. There is no other station we would rather be tuned in to. You fill the day with a “touch of Heaven” and for this we are eternally grateful. May God continue to bless and keep you. Please accept this heartfelt gift of thanks.
from Barbados... Dear Brethren, I greet you all in the blessed name of our great God and Saviour and our any moment King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We thank God for Harbour Light where we hear the true Word and doctrine of God as the days come and go. Keep the good work up and may God bless you all. Great rewards await you all for the good work of the Lord.

There is so much spiritual food for the soul.

from England...After phoning you last week and asking you how I could listen to Harbour Light radio, I have listened to it every day since and it is a pleasure that when I am working I can listen to such a wonderful radio station. I have recommended the station to at least two others and they are listening to the station. I cannot explain how relaxing it is to listen to such a station. May I say God bless every member of the staff and I will remember every one in my prayers.
